Young Girls India’s mission statement is simple - to educate girls to become a girl with direction and hope. To be a mentor to other girls. To change the world.

Our Beginning

Young Girls India, Inc came into being when the founder Sarah Murphy Travis travelled to India in the Spring of 2019. While traveling through urban India and getting to know the families along her way, she noticed there was a fundamental difference between the expected roles of the boys and the girls, and the value of their education was remarkably different. Sarah decided to be the agent of change to benefit girls allowing them to be educated at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

In October of 2019 Sarah returned to India to spend time with young girls that became the first group of students of Young Girls India, Inc. During this trip she and Rajiv Lochan, Vice President, visited the schools where the girls will attend for their education.

It is hard to receive a good education being a young girl in India. Girls are thought to cook and clean all day and are not given the opportunity to learn math and science. They must take care of their family and do not have time to read literature or write poetry. They do not have the privilege to earn an education like young girls in America.
