Thinlay

Mentor

My name is Thinlay Peden Bhutia and I come from the beautiful hills of Kalimpong. Kalimpong is a small hilly town famous for its history, food, flowers and amazing schools. Education here, however, was confined for me. Knowledge seeking and school curriculum only had chapters which needed to be memorised and written down as answers. When I moved to New Delhi for my college education (Indraprastha College, Delhi University) I realized how shy and self-conscious I was. I was unable to speak confidently or put my opinions across. Therefore I started to do my own little research and I started teaching In Touch India Foundation (Siksha Rath) which deals with educating children from Slum areas. I learned how to start with the basics of reading for children and how to intragate activities based on learning, right from elementary level which makes a child interested and at the same time focuses them on reading skills, overall development and most importantly -creativity. This whole concept of activity based teaching has opened windows for me as a learner and a teacher.
