In 2022 Nikisha was accepted to Cluny Women’s College. The mission of the college is “An educated woman is an educated family.” They strive to promote gender equality through higher education among women. We are proud of Nikisha to be attending this college and fulfilling her dream of writing. She has taken the mission of YGI to the next level. Nikisha feels that she wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for the program with YGI and Thinlay Peden, our tutor, and mentor. She never knew that she liked writing unless Thinlay hadn’t encouraged her to write and keep a daily diary. She began to write poetry daily and in doing so learned she truly loves writing.
YGI's Annual Day of Giving, March 23, 2022
On March 23rd, YGI is having its Annual Giving Day. Please consider participating in this day to help us reach our goal of $5000 that will pay to help educate all the girls for the 2022 school term. Our goal is to provide the means for our girls to attend non-government-run schools. All donations go toward providing our girls with tools to be successful and overcome the socioeconomic and gender biases that may they may experience on their journey to higher education. Join us in support of our most important cause: to educate girls to become a girl with direction and hope. To be a mentor to other girls. To change the world.
Schools in Kalimpong have started back
In mid-February schools have started back in Kalimpong. With our donors' generous support, YGI was able to continue to have Thinlay Peden, the mentor, and tutor, continue to work with the girls while the schools were closed. Thinlay's classes have helped prepare the YGI girls to get back into the school environment again.
Due to the financial burden of the pandemic, KumKum and Ishani’s school, Gyan Jyati School, had to close. They are now attending Don Basco School in Kalimpong. KumKum and Ishani are very happy at their new school…and they are excited to get their new uniforms.
Giving Tuesday 2021
Giving Tuesday is the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year it is November 30th. The gift of giving helps the YGI girls receive the proper education they deserve. Any amount matters, $5, $10, $50, your donation allows for our girls to grow in the English language, writing and reading, and most importantly confidence.

Life During Covid-19
The schools in India have not opened up yet as they are starting to in America. However, the girls in Kalimpong have started working with the tutor, Thinlay, again. Thinlay has been teaching them about writing short stories. The girls titled the stories Little Things. They wrote about how the little things in life made an impact on them. Thinlay also had the girls learn how to present and read their stories to the group. Even though the schools are closed, the goal is to have the tutors work with the girls to continue advancing their knowledge.
Covid-19
Due to the current pandemic that is affecting communities across the globe, the project is unable to progress further until the dangers of Covid-19 diminish. The board would like to ensure their donors that we are still working behind the scenes and preparing for the continuation of the program. Although Covid-19 has prevented the girls from going to school and meeting with their mentors for the time being, the board is currently planning for future successes in providing higher educational opportunities for young girls in India.
Laptops are Provided to Remaining Students
The program participants living and attending school in Kalimpong received laptops that were paid for using the generous donations from the November fundraisers. The laptops allow for the girls to research, write, read, and to practice mathematical problems.
The laptops are used during study sessions, while tutors Anil and Thinlay are helping the students, and are placed with Anu and Rajiv at the end of the day. In addition to the laptops, the board of Young Girls India bought wireless internet connection for educational purposes.
Tutor Sessions with Anil Begin
Anil began to tutor the girls in math early March of 2020. Math tutoring occurs three times a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. Tutoring with Thinlay continues twice a week and on Saturday mornings.
A Laptop is Provided to University Student
Funds received in November aided the board of Young Girls India in buying a laptop for Shruti to use. Shruti attends Nalanda Medical College in Patna, Bihar.
